Super Sick Little Boy

Nicholas woke up Friday morning his usual smiley self. But, at some point during the night he had gotten sick (thrown up) in his crib. After his first bottle of the day, he spit up again. He seemed himself, happy, with no fever, and no lack of appetite, so we brought him to day care to tell them what was going on. Nick and I had a scheduled day off together and we told them to call us right away if he got sick again. After his first bite of breakfast, he started throwing up everywhere. We took him to the doctor who checked out his ear (from the ear infection 2 weeks ago) and found out that on a scale of 1-10, he had a "level 10" ear infection. The poor guy is probably in a ton of pain but we had no idea until the doc checked out his ear. As he was resistant to the amoxicillin, he's now on 10 days of augmentin. Unfortunately the augmentin is much less pleasant than the amoxicillin (think bubblegum vs. chalky paste) but Nicholas is pretty good about taking it. He threw up everywhere today and has also had diarrhea all day, which can be a side effect of the augmentin. One funny thing is that fluids are more important than food right now, and he's decided to take to using the sippy cup and has been chugging water! His appetite for food isn't much, but he's managed to keep just about everything down today. Still no fever, and we'll call the doc tomorrow if the diarrhea continues.

Here are some pics of the "sick boy" at the doctor. You'd never know by looking at him, right?

Here's some sippy cuppy action (he did actually drink a lot..don't let the mess fool you :)

Sick Time

Considering Nicholas has been in a day care center full time since he was 3 months old, I think it's pretty awesome that he didn't get sick until just after he turned 10 months old. I was just mentioning to a co worker how lucky we've been when the day care called me that afternoon (Friday) to tell me he wasn't himself. Nick picked him up and took him to the doctor. He had a fever a little over 100 and it turns out he had an ear infection. He'll be on amoxicillin for 10 days, 3 times a day. He doesn't mind taking it at all, and honestly, this kid is a champ because he seems to be handling it really well. We went to Connecticut to see my friend Jessie and other then being a little cranky when he wanted food, he was his usual happy self. The last few days, in pictures:

Socks, his favorite

He stood on his own for quite awhile - Nick says a few minutes, I thought it was about 30 seconds. But I totally cried. :)

Sunday morning before visiting Jessie, and right before he ripped out some of my hair and wiped boogs all over me. Suh-weet!

Hanging out in the car waiting for Jessie

He loved the food court, looking around at everyone. A little girl also patted him on the head and an older man told us he was beautiful and that both he and Jesus loved him. He was very sweet!

Hey buns!

Are you lookin at my buns?
