Baby Registry

I went to a baby shower today for Nick's cousin's wife Courtney. I think it gave me a little baby fever because I came home and started a registry on Babies R' Us. How overwhelming! I don't know the first thing about what I do and do not need. I have a few ideas about what I'd like to do, but I don't even know simple things like the difference between an infant car seat and a convertible car seat. Is one better than the other? Should I get one and not the other? I am certain most women feel like this. I started on the website a little and Nick and I are going to the store next weekend. I'm just hoping we can work with someone nice and helpful at the store to put me (a little bit) at ease. Many friends have offered to help me and I'm so thankful for that! Plus I have a bunch of friends/family members that are currently pregnant so I've been peeking at their registries and that has been a big help too.

Tomorrow night Nick and I have a pregnancy class at Lowell General, it's called "Healthy Pregnancy, Healthy You" I think it's more for me than it is for Nick, but the sign up sheet said supports person welcome, so he's stuck coming with me!

We've also been playing around with different boy names. As of right now we are on Nicholas (after his grandfather) Joseph (my dad), although I'm wondering if maybe we should come up with something different. So far the names I like (Ace, Brent) Nick hates, and he has promised he will come up with a few suggestions. I've been looking at baby name websites and I'm sure something will eventually jump out at me.

We found a tiny tick on Dexter yesterday. It was still very small but the area around where it had bitten into him was very red. We managed to get the tick out but it looks pretty bad. We're giving it a few days to see if it goes away, but otherwise we'll be bringing him to the vet. I declined the lyme vaccination because I've discussed it with many people, and most feel the risks far outweigh the benefits of the shot...of course now I'm concerned that I made a mistake. Please think good thoughts for our first little boy! :)

I like the infant car seat because they sleep so much when they are little. Having to move a sleeping child from the car to the drs office or house would be annoying. However if you get the convertible it is less expensive since you only buy one. I always use the car seat as the stroller.
If you want me to look over your registry when you are done I would be happy to. I've done it for a lot of my friends. I also blogged about registering once so you can search the archives for that

Thanks Becky! I will definitely let you know. Right now I'm having trouble even coming up with an idea for the room itself. I picked a paint color - one shade lighter than the color in our living room, because it's neutral. That's as far as I've gotten. And I picked a crib and changing table which has shelves, might forgo the dresser. But not sure if I need that too! I appreciate any help I can get :)

This book was a HUGE help to us when we registered: http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Bargains-Secrets-furniture-maternity/dp/1889392405/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1318890626&sr=8-1

Definitely get the infant carseat because you can take it in and out of the car with sleeping baby inside.

As for the stroller, I'd recommend the UppaBaby Vista. It's on the more expensive side, but something I found out after we got ours (of course) is that there's a warehouse in boston where you can get them for a huge discount. The stroller is amazing! It also has an adapter for some infant carseats (we have the Graco) so you can use it instead of the travel system. Good luck!
