Ten years ago today I went out to dinner with my friend Jessie and her boyfriend at the time, Sean. Little did I know I would meet the man who would become my future husband and father of my soon to be born son. I was going through a rough time from a previous relationship and was pretty down in general (I also weighed about 103 pounds and I am 5'6"). Jessie and Sean took me out to Bennigan’s in Milford, CT, to cheer me up for my birthday. That night, our server was a good looking dude named Nick. Yes, even in a black short sleeved shirt, black slacks, and black sneakers, I found him attractive. When he smiled I saw dimples. When he laughed, I found myself laughing too. I found myself repeatedly looking at him and turning bright red (because I'm a great flirt...) He carded me (I was 22 so that was nice...smooth move?), and kept checking on our table to see if there was anything we needed. When he walked away I would mumble under my breath “your phone number would be nice.” At the end of the night I said to Jessie...do I do it? Do I leave my phone number in the bill? I figured what did I have to lose?
Best. Decision. Ever.
Or, you could say Nick made the best decision ever by calling me. ;)
I love you Nick. Thank you for making me a better person and thank you for being the most amazing husband a girl could ask for. Also, thank you for putting up with me. I can’t wait to see you hold our newborn son in just a few short weeks.
Nick and I in his college dorm (as if you couldn't tell) on May 4th, 2002. This was the first night he told me loved me. Yes, he said it first! Nice Smirnoff Ice, Crystal...or maybe it was a Mike's!

I remember you telling me this story for the first time right after he called you the first time after you left your number. I like to tell people this story when I need a good "take a chance what could it hurt?" story. I'm so glad things have worked out so well..and omg I can't believe it's been 10 years!!! Congrats to you both and I can't wait to see pictures of your new baby boy!! And Happy (belated) Birthday!!!! XO
This is one of my favorite stories ever. :)
Thanks ladies! :) xo
Isn't that cute huh? lol You and Nick's genetic mix is about to enter this world and after the hospital exhaustion goes away when you bring the baby home the first day, you too will sit with the baby sleeping peacefully in both your arms that night and realize that meeting like this wasn't a coincidence.
