Nicholas is 11 Months Old!

Likes: Cruising around everything and anything. Walls, tables, cabinets, chairs. He likes to pull out the kitchen chairs, or the stools we have, and push them around the house. The other day he actually moved our living room coffee table into the corner (it’s on wheels). We’re going to put the table down stairs and just get a big rug for the living room, so he has more space to play and less things to bump into. He also loves the push toy and will just do laps around the house with it.

He loves Dexter. LOVES HIM. It is so wonderful to watch. He goes nutso, pulls on him, smacks him, and Dexter just takes it all (but eventually runs away when he realizes that he can).

Bath time. He’s in a pretty good mood most of the time, and splashes, chews on toys, cheeses up at us with his little teeth. He does not appreciate when we take him out to get him ready for bed.

The TV. This one makes me unhappy but I guess it’s a bit inevitable. I watch very little TV but like to have it on in the background for noise. He gets enthralled with the colors/sounds, no matter what is on. He doesn’t freak out if we take him away from it though, which I guess is a good thing.

Socks socks socks. We don’t put his socks on until the very last second he leaves the house, because he always gets them off. I want to have him fitted for shoes soon so maybe that will help the problem a little (but probably not)

Mama & Dada. He will pretty much go to anyone, but prefers us. If Nana (Nick’s mom) is holding him and I come into the room, he wants nothing to do with her. He hasn’t really shown a preference for Nick or I, but I think he missed me a lot while I was in SC because he’s been a little more clingy than normal.

Dislikes:
Having something taken away from him he can’t play with (Dexter’s dog toy, something random he gets ahold of, etc.) He shows his frustration now by crying/yelling/etc. We just distract him quick and then he’s fine.

Still not a fan of the diaper change/getting dressed, but this has been getting better.

Eating:
This kid loves to eat. I am working through the rest of the jarred baby food I had purchased and am getting him on strictly small pieces of food now. He doesn’t show much interest in the jarred food anymore, he has a mostly “do it himself” attitude. I just started giving him bits of chicken (I was nervous because of the tougher texture) and am going to try turkey and firm tofu within the next week or so – if any mom’s have a tofu idea for a finger food can you let me know? I haven’t had a chance to search much but I’m thinking I need to steam it (I read to do this because of any potential bacteria?) and can just give it to him plain?

He’s down to 5 bottles a day and is pretty good with the sippy cup, I don’t give him much water other than at snack time, not sure if I should be giving him more. I’m nervous about weaning from the bottle to just a cup, but I’ve read the easiest time to do that is between 12-18 months so at least I have a little more time.

His favorite foods are broccoli, zucchini, peas, cheerios, cheese…he’s not a huge fan of fruit but likes apples and pears pureed in oatmeal (I make this) and I’ve gotten him to eat cantaloupe and honeydew. He also likes toast and pasta (but who doesn’t?) I bought some more veggies for him to try this week too.

New and noteable:
He talks gibberish like crazy “ba, da, na” and Nick swears he said “deder” (he thinks Dexter) while I was away. Kid still won’t say mama though!

He’s pretty good at waving hello and goodbye and also clapping. He likes throwing and chasing balls.

He’s taken a few solo steps on his own, but then plops down and crawls because it’s a lot faster.

The little guy finally has a good amount of hair coming in and I’m excited to say that it’s light like mine was as a baby! I thought it was going to be dark like Nick’s so it’s pretty cool that it’s coming in light.

Sleep: No change from last month, down by 7:30, usually wakes up at just about 6 on the dot.

Naps have been on and off, on the weekend is the only time I can really control them and if he gets cranky I put him in his crib and within 15 minutes or so he’s out for an hour or sometimes more. I do think naps are important but I’m not stressing about a strict schedule as far as they go.

I’m currently working on his first birthday party which is going to be March 9th, and we’re heading to NY the following weekend to celebrate with my family. It’s been so long since I’ve planned a party so I can’t wait to make it special for the little guy.

xoxo
