Nicholas' 4th Birthday
For the last 6 months or so Nicholas has gone back and forth with 5-10 ideas about what he wanted for his 4th birthday. For those of you that know me, I am a super organized gal so the faster I could nail the plan down, the better. Being a Mom, I realize know matter how much you try and plan, that doesn't always work out. Well I kinda SWAYED him in to the construction vehicle theme, and I am thankful to say that it all worked out. I tried to tone it down this year with guests, but we are so beyond lucky to have so many wonderful friends that it was a huge party.

My 36th Birthday
I'll be the first to say I absolutely love celebrating my birthday. This year I went low key and just had a great gathering with some of my favorite friends. I specifically requested "shrimp and mozzarella sticks" for the night, and Nick happily obliged, haha. My friend Deanna made me the most beautiful and delicious birthday cake. We laughed, ate, and drank the night away. :)

Sistah Boo Wedding
Hey everyone! So, as you know I am super far behind in my posting- I've got this wonderful ongoing list of blogs I intend to write, but just can't seem to find the time to do it! The (not so little) guy went to bed on the earlier side tonight so I have a little bit of free time, woohoo!
Alexis and Rich were married on February 6th and it was the beyond perfect day. Alexis was hoping for snow and she got the perfect amount the day before the wedding. The photos we have seen so far are absolutely amazing, and we cannot wait to see the rest!
We got ready at the Renaissance Golf Club, where the wedding took place. It was exciting, relaxing, and so much fun, to say the very least. It was great to be together and to see Alexis smile approximately every 30 seconds was absolutely wonderful.
The ride to the church was filled with anticipation. The ceremony was perfect- Nick and I kept stealing glances at each other and smiling like dopes, remembering how almost 8 years before we were in the very same spot as Alexis and Rich. It was beautiful and mesmerizing to watch the two of them exchange vows, knowing they are headed for a wonderful lifetime of being together.
The reception was so much fun- our friends Matt and Deanna were there and we had SUCH a blast together. Dancing (and of course drinking..) the night away. It was truly a wonderful winter fairy tale, from beginning to end.

Happy 70th Birthday, Dad
Today my Dad turns 70 years old. That's right, 7-0. Growing up, my two closest friends did not have their Dad's in their life. As an adult, many of my friends now have lost their Dad's due to illness. I know how truly lucky I am to have my Dad in my life for the last 35 years.
As many of you know, my Dad is a Vietnam Veteran. Many years after he served, he began therapy to help with his PTSD and other illnesses he has suffered as of a result of what he witnessed and was exposed to at war. He struggled with alcohol (he has been sober for years). He struggled with feeling as though he was never there as a parent to myself and my two brothers, or a very good husband to my Mom. I think that last one is the hardest for him to deal with.
Growing up, I remember both my Mom and Dad always being there. They both went through hard times (don't we all), but I never once doubted how much they loved me. Never.
Here are a few things I remember about growing up with my Dad, in no particular order.
- When I was a baby my Dad had a beard and a mustache and one day he shaved it and I was terrified of him (I don't know if i remember this or someone told me the story, but it is hilarious).
- My dad would get up very early to go to work, but when he came home I would often sit with him on the porch while he'd take off and shake off the sawdust from his boots (he was a carpenter).
- Every time he farts (to this day) he yells "pick that up!" One time Nick accidentally yelled "put that down!" and we still laugh about it (I am dying laughing just typing this).
- His silly birthdays, where my Mom would often make him a cake or buy a cake (I don't remember which) and we would cut up little bits of paper and throw "confetti" at him that would often stick in his bits of hair.
- Walking around the mall with him and my Mom, while my Mom would buy a few things- he was the best bag holder, haha.
- Playing with friends at the playground when he would play softball with the guys (maybe a 40 and older league?)
- When I was in high school I played volleyball and he never missed one my games. Ever. He even took a tiny ferry to get to Shelter Island Pierson school when we had a game there.
- When Nick asked for my Dad's permission to marry me he said something along the lines of "I'm not losing a daughter, I'm gaining a son."
- When I went for a wedding dress fitting, he came along and was the only man in the store. When he saw me in my dress, he hid behind a rack of dresses because he had tears in his eyes and he didn't want to be made fun of by the ladies there (and he was, in a nice way).
- The day of my wedding, the first time he saw me in full bride mode, is a moment I will never forget. Talk about emotional. I started cracking jokes to keep him (and myself) from crying. Two of my bridesmaids had lost their Dad's (one very recently) and I can't imagine how emotional it was for them as well. I will never, ever, ever forget that moment.
- At my wedding, we danced to Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder. It's a pretty upbeat song and we danced and swirled and "bopped" all around the dance floor. It was truly wonderful and every second was simply awesome.
- When I gave birth to Nicholas, it was a bit scary and I had to call my parents to tell them I would be ok. They arrived about 6 hours after Nicholas was born and I remember just looking at them both as they stared in awe at Nicholas. Another one of those moments I will never forget.
- My dad doesn't always feel that great health wise, so the moments and adventures he is able to have with Nicholas when he feels well are truly amazing to watch. My Dad loves Nicholas and Nicholas loves Grampa and I'm so grateful and thankful that they know one another.
Here's to you Dad- thank you for everything you have done and continue to do for all of us. We love you so very very much.

Santa Photos at Lowell Humane Society
As most of you know, when Nicholas was 9 months he had his first visit with Santa. I have actually never taken him to the mall and never plan to. It's become a wonderful tradition to take Nicholas to Lowell Humane Society along with Dexter for photos to support a great cause. Lowell Humane is so important to me and it feels great to be able to give back to animals in need.

Thanksgiving
Back before I had Nicholas Nick and I would alternate holidays with the family. Thanksgiving in MA, Christmas in NY, then switch the following year. This year was the first year we started that up again and headed to NY for Thanksgiving, where we hadn't been for the holiday since 2011. We had a really great time with at Erik & Joe's house and we got to meet my brother Dylan's new girlfriend (now fiancé), Mariana. She was very sweet and Nicholas loved her and my brother is happy, so I am happy.
The day after Thanksgiving Erik and I took Nicholas to see The Peanuts Movie and it is without question the sweetest and cutest movie I have seen in a long time. I highly recommend if you have (or even if you don't) have little ones. I can't wait for it to come out on DVD so I can see it again!

We headed back to New York the saturday morning after as we had a "friends giving" event at a friends house nearby. It was great to relax and just hang and start prepping for the holiday. <3
The day after Thanksgiving Erik and I took Nicholas to see The Peanuts Movie and it is without question the sweetest and cutest movie I have seen in a long time. I highly recommend if you have (or even if you don't) have little ones. I can't wait for it to come out on DVD so I can see it again!
